Pinewood Derby

SAM_1503

This week for cub scouts we had our pinewood derby contest.  We combined with another troop/ward so we could actually have a “real” contest.  They served popcorn and lemonade at the race, but we didn’t eat any because the kids got into it before we could.  Afterwards, the leaders got to do a race.  This was our car.  Mark and I bought the wedge and wheels at the scout shop.  Then, Mark sanded the wedge down until it was nice and smooth.  I used a pen and markers to color the flaming bee and side flames.  Finally, Mark put in the wheels by pushing in the nails.  It was tough work!  We were going to sand the nails, but we didn’t have enough time.  I think our car was by far the most colorful car around.  I gave it the best looking car award, but we lost the race.  Now we know what to do so that we can “win” next time.

Cuties

SAM_1488

Delicious, Sweet, Cute…Mark and I bought these cuties for our Christmas stockings and for backpacking. Mark made this star for me and I thought it very fitting for the Christmas season to share it with everyone. I know the Lord has truly blessed me this past year. Mark and I have had all our needs met and I am so grateful for those everyday blessings, especially for my home, food, clothes, and job. Mark and I have been praying for his acceptance and success in the air force. It is hard being in the “waiting” zone, but I have learned it is important to wait upon the Lord.

Back to the cuties, I was able to spend some time with Hannah, my niece, and she is a cutie. She is lucky to have some good parents and grandparents. She sat on my lap in church on Christmas morning and told me I was beautiful along with all her aunts, mom, and grandmother. I truly felt God’s love for each of us as she said those words. Hannah truly shared the meaning of Christmas. I am a proud aunt!!

Merry and Happy Christmas!

Home-made Pizza

My family has a long-held tradition of making pizza every Friday night.  While I didn’t make this pizza on a Friday, I did think about all the times my mom made pizza for my family. We had good pizzas that took planning and preparation and some other pizzas that were not… as well planned.  I have found a good pizza take planning and preparation.

Mark and I planned this pizza.  We got most of our toppings from Sunflower and bought our cheese mix, cheddar and mozzarella,  from Trader Joes.  I made the dough from scratch using yeast, water, sugar, salt, an egg and some flour.

Pizza making is a lot of fun; you can make each one a little differently.  I like to have pepperoni, sausage, onions, peppers, and olives on my pizza.  The flavor varies as you add more or less of a topping.  I added mushrooms this time because we had some and Mark likes them. To me, they don’t add too much flavor.

Mark likes that I can make pizza, but I just thought it was an essential part of growing up and feeding people.  There aren’t too many people who don’t like pizza, so I grew up making pizza for the missionaries and other guests.  As for me, even though I am a diabetic, and pizza can do crazy things to a person’s blood glucose levels, I still love to eat it.  I can choose what to put on my pizza and how “healthy” I want it to be.
